John oversees the entire tennis program and thirteen highly qualified tennis professionals.  He is a certified 2A “Professional since 1991 with the PTR.  John is a former #1 Chicago Men’s Open and winner of 1992, 1993, and 1999 Gullikson Memorial Clay Court Open Tennis Tournament.  He is the champion of the 2003 and 2005 PTR International $25,000 Championship.  John is on the Professional Advisory staff of Head/Penn.

Jeff Newman

Jeff played tennis at Oklahoma State University, where he won Conference Championships at #1 singles and #1 doubles, was the Big 8 Player of the Year, and held top 10 NCAA rankings in both singles and doubles. Jeff went on to attain ATP world rankings in both singles and doubles, win the USTA Hawaiian Satellite Circuit, and compete professionally in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Jeff was the #1 ranked junior in the Midwest Section, Boys 18’s singles and doubles, was a High School All-American and was inducted in to Downers Grove South High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He earned 2 national sportsmanship awards and the CDTA Junior Scholarship Award. Jeff has been teaching students ranging from beginner to world-ranked elite players for over 14 years.

Brad Pihl

Brad is a certified Professional with the PTR.  He has a BS from Wheaton College and is working on his Masters degree at NIU.  Brad was conference champion in doubles and 4 years varsity tennis team member at Wheaton College.  He is the former girls tennis coach at Wheaton Academy.  Brad teaches all levels of tennis at the Wheaton Sport Center.

Dave Webster

Dave played varsity tennis at Harvard and Boston University.  He won the New England Clay Court Championship. Dave is a Professor Emeritus at College of  DuPage as well as the tennis coach during his tenure.  He is presently the Men’s tennis coach at Wheaton College.  Dave serves on the Professional Advisory staff of Wilson.

Gene Holland

Gene teaches all levels of students.  He is a certified Master Professional, National Clinician, National Tester, and for Pro of the Year with the PTR.  Gene was a featured writer of several leading articles in the PTR’s Tennis Pro Magazine.  The articles included:  “Doubles:  Five Frequently Occurring situations” and “In Your Face Baby, Doiubles”.  Gene is currently investigating tennis and fitness, the mind and body mix.  Gene was the Tennis Director at the Wheaton Sport Center from 1980-2000.

Joyce Penn

Joyce received both her B.S. in Physical Education and Master of Education degrees from the University of Illinois.  After taking up tennis later in her life, she earned a national ranking in several age groups in both singles and doubles.  Her 5.0 USTA  Adult Team won the National Championship. 
Joyce is certified by the PTR and has been at the Wheaton Sport Center since 1983.

Lenno Lasn

In his home country of Estonia, Lenno began playing tennis when he was 8 years old.  At 18 he moved to the United States with his family.  He played tennis at the College of DuPage and was the National Champion at #4 Singles and the National Runner-Up in Doubles at the 1998 National Junior College Men’s Tennis Championships. Lenno earned his Bachelor of Arts from Queens College in New York, where he played
# 1 singles.
Lenno is a certified PTR professional and teaches all levels of players at the Wheaton Sport Center.  He has been at the Wheaton Sport Center since 2004.

Pat Maurer

Patrick is the assistant administrator of the Tennis Department. He teaches mainly in the Junior Development programs, but is skilled to teach all levels of tennis.  He is a certified "4A Professional" with the Professional Tennis Registry.  Patrick has been a Pro at the Wheaton Sport Center since 2000. He is currently the head coach of the tennis teams at Marmion Academy in Aurora.  Pat is on the PTR Advisory staff for Head/Penn.

Becky has worked at the Wheaton Sport Center for 12 years.  She worked at the front desk as a receptionist and trainer of new employees.  Becky played on the tennis team at Wheaton College, played USTA in South Carolina and is on one of our women’s travel teams.  She administers the tennis leagues and provides assistance in the office.

Gus was born in Curitiba, Brazil and started playing tennis when he was 7 years old. After watching his father and mother having tennis lessons. Gus moved to the USA after receving as scholarship for playing at Louisiana State University. His passion in life is Tennis and Family. Gus is also a Certified PTR Professional.

Tennis Career:
Junior:
Ranked as high as number 5 in the world by the International Tennis Federation. Played in the junior grand slams of the French open, Wimbledon and US Open.

College:
Played for Louisana State University and was ranked as high as #5 in the NCAA Division.

Professional:
Highest ranking was #1071 itn the ATP at age 18.

Bob coaches junior players who hold a USTA Midwest Section or national rank and who compete regularly in USTA tournaments. Bob is head coach for the boys and girls varsity tennis tennis teams at Oswego East High School. He played varsity at Marquette University. As tournament director, Bob oversees USTA junior tournaments at WSC. He is certified by USPTR for teaching tennis and by USTA for officiating tournaments.

Craig Southworth

Craig was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He lived in Canada until he was 10 years old then moved to New Zealand for 2 and a half years. Australia for six months then back to Canada. From there, he then moved to Florida where he learned the game of tennis. While working on his ranking he played High School and Jr. College tennis earning a Div. 1 scholarship to play at the University Of Illinois at Chicago. During his senior year he played #2 singles and #1 doubles. Craig received a B.S. degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training (sports medicine). For 19 years he worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer in the Clinical, High School, Collegiate, and Professional levels ( including the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Blackhawks ). Craig's love of the game and the desire to pass that on motivated him to become PTR Certified. While working with athletes of all levels, he has had a special interest in rehabilitation of injuries and the mental side of sports.

I started playing tennis when I was 14 years old.  I played on the high school team and at University of Illinois at Chicago.  I got my BS in Commerce/Finance from DePaul University and pursued a career in the Financial Markets and Telecommunications.  I became certified with the PTR this year.  Because of my passion for the game, I really enjoy teaching all levels of students. I work on a part-time basis and still hold my regular day-time career at AT&T.

Leandro Martins has been at the Wheaton Sport Center since January 2006. As the Adult director he oversees the Adult tennis program and twelve travel teams for men and women. Leandro is PTR certified and teaches all levels of students from juniors to adults.

Hillary graduated from Wheaton North High School in 1987. At Wheaton North, she qualified for State and in her senior year finshed in the top 32. She attended Wheaton College and played in the National Tournament & was inducted into Wheaton College's Hall of Honor in 2007. Hillary played tennis in France after college with the AIA. She taught tennis at Wheaton College's P.E. Department & was the assistant tennis coach at Wheaton College from 1991-1994. Hillary teaches all levels.
