630.315.5389
Jim Hughes received a BS and MS in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993 and 1996 respectively. During his undergraduate studies he initiated a personal training program at the all racquetball Fitness Center in 1991, growing the program from its infancy to converting 4 courts to strength, cardiovascular, stretching and personal training areas. In 1993 while studying for his Masters he was hired as part of the strength and conditioning staff at the U of I and continued in that capacity until he accepted a job as the personal training manager at the Gold Coast Multiplex in Chicago in 1996. While serving in that position he was offered an opportunity to serve as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
In 1998 he was hired to oversee the construction, layout, and implementation of the new strength and conditioning program where he grew it from an idea of working with a single team into one that was responsible for the year round training program of 18 varsity Division 1 teams and over 325 athletes. In 2001 he was hired as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Washington Wizards of the NBA where he was responsible for the design, development and implementation of the year round training program for the Wizards.
In 2005, he accepted a position as a superintendent for Beazer Homes in the hopes of expanding his business and managerial skills. He has helped build and close in excess of 250 homes in the DC/Virginia region over the past 4 years and was honored as Mid-Atlantic Region’s NHBI builder of the year. He now brings his managerial and organizational skills to the Wheaton Sport Center as Fitness Director and looks forward to sharing his years of experience with all members in their quest to stay fit.

"I believe every repetition of every exercise should bring us closer to our goal. Quality of contraction including use and control of the most efficient muscles for the movement takes precedent over quantity of contractions. I have a strong belief that understanding the current condition (strength and range of motion) of your joints and muscles is imperative in order to help you reach your maximum potential along with prevention of short- and long-term injuries."

"God gave you one body...make the most of it!"
I attended Eastern Illinois University where I majored in elementary education. This included endorsements in P.E, reading and social studies. I also have a masters in educational administration. Teaching P.E. as I do, it was a natural progression into personal training. Much of what I am doing in P.E. currently could fall under the category of personal training. When I had a chance to take a class to officially become a certified trainer, I jumped at the opportunity. While at Eastern I also competed in wrestling where I qualified for the Division I national tournament twice and competed internationally while attending Eastern. Wrestling provided many opportunities and I will always have an interest in combat type sports. I began judo a few years ago with my daughter and son. In addition, I have coached wrestling, soccer and track.
