Empower your children to recognize and avoid danger in a fun, safe and healthy learning environment. Our Children's Program develops
listening skills, coordination, self-discipline
and life skills. We use a fun and casual
approach to real life dangers like "Stranger
Danger" self-defense to protect our children
aganist abductions. Your children will get a
boost in self-esteem and will be more confident in
everything they do! Our school motto is "Might for
Right" meaning that the child's karate skills are
ONLY to be used to defend themselves in a real
situation. WE believe that the best fight is
the fight that is avoided by using ones
head.
What Are Some Benefits of Enrolling My Child In a Karate Program?
I have a student who was being pushed around and harassed by students at school, which in turn fueled the low self esteem of this child. After talking to the parents about their concerns, I adjusted my teachings by using her as an example of how to perform certain punches and kicks. This student went on to become a great karate kid and won first place in sparring (fighting or kumite) at our school's tournament. Her parents noticed a big change in her confidence and she no longer gets harassed at school. This is a very common reason why parents enroll their children in martial arts.
I have a student who was not very athletic but had a very strong will to succeed in karate and obtain a black belt. Once I became his Sensei, I would talk to him about diet and exercise and explain how to get his body in the best condition possible to make his black belt journey more obtainable. Three years later he is one of my better students and about a year away from getting his black belt. He has lost a lot of weight and grown very tall and lean. He has listened to my advice and is now one of my best student fighters. He also leads his class by example.
Lastly, I have a student who is currently being screened for his black belt and testing this January. He will be my first student to obtain a black belt. My son Carson also helps me by assisting at WSC as an instructor. Carson and I would teach private lessons on weekends to this same student. He would spend time at my house and hang out to talk
about martial arts. He went on to win the Diamond Nationals World Karate tournament not once but two years in a row. He is now giving back to the martial arts community by assisting at WSC in the National Karate program.
While these are great examples of good kids simply giving their best, there are plenty of these stories. It really brings joy to my heart to watch these kids transform from what they bring on the their first day to what they become six months later.
I invite you to try one of our Karate classes which meet Mondays & Wednesdays beginning at 5:30 pm for kids ages five and older. Classes are offered based on age and skill levels to Wheaton Sport Center Members. The next session of Karate begins August 25, but you may begin a session at any time and be pro-rated for the missed classes. I hope to see you in class!
