Free Iron Man Motivational Event

The fitness department will be hosting an Iron Man motivational program.  To break it down, it’s a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run.  Sign up at the fitness desk between September 10th through September 28th.  The race begins October 1st and ends on October 19th.  Prizes given out for finishing.

Youth Certification Classes Offered

Wheaton Sport Center encourages kids to exercise!  We offer Youth Certification class to allow children between the ages of 10 and 14 to exercise with their parents.  Our top priority is to ensure your children are using the machines properly and safely.
Weight training can be dangerous for kids if done incorrectly - not all fitness equipment is designed to be used by children.  Because of this concern, children under 14 are not allowed to work-out in the fitness area without taking the Youth Certification class and test.  Once certified, the child is allowed on the fitness floor only with parent/legal guardian supervision.  To sign up for a class or for more details, call John Seremak @ 690-0887 ext. 368.

September is Better Breakfast Month.
Did you know? A healthy breakfast may be just what you need to lose those extra pounds. When you skip breakfast, your body goes into starvation mode and burns less calories. Eating breakfast actually jump-starts your metabolism!

Message from the General Manager

I hope this letter finds everyone in good health and surviving these weather systems.  As my staff was handling the August storms with professionalism and attentiveness, it reminded me of my priorities.  Although, this construction has not gone as fast as we wanted in regards to timeliness, I hope everyone realizes the WSC staff consistently strives to show you how important you are to us.  Whether it is rearranging areas, creating ways to continue to offer classes and amenities or having staff park offsite, our goal is always to ensure our number one priority is you.  I am happy to announce that our new and improved Childcare will be opening earlier than expected as of September 3rd!  All babies and children under three will be treated to a new WSC Childcare experience.
With the fall season approaching, membership usage usually increases.  Please be assured that staff has been instructed to park remotely and if you have any concerns regarding inconveniences; please don’t hesitate to talk to me or anyone of the WSC staff. I look forward to the upcoming months and to the completion of the renovations.

Health & Happiness,
Dawn Szumski

Kendall
K4Kidslogo
In the News!
WSC would like to recognize member, Kendall Ciesemier.  Lately Kendall has been receiving well deserved publicity for her organization: kidcaring4kids.org. Earlier in September, Kendall was surprised at her school by President Clinton who then whisked her downtown to Harpo Studios for an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Kendall originally got her idea for her organization after viewing an Oprah Winfrey special about kids caring for kids in the winter of 2004. , Kendall decided that she had to do something to help the 12 million AIDS orphans of Africa. She began by adopting a child through World Vision with her own annual contribution of $360. In June 2004, as Kendall faced an upcoming liver transplant, she organized her effort, "Kids Caring 4 Kids", asking friends and family to send donations instead of flowers or gifts. Kendall initially adopted a project through World Vision and began accepting on-line donations.
WSC encourages members to visit www.kidscaring4kids.org and learn how you can help Kendall and her cause!
